Basic information about sac305 solder bar:

Sac305 solder bar is a lead free solder bar that consisted of only tin, silver and copper without any lead. The content of silver is 3.0% by weight, and copper is 0.5% while the tin is the remaining 96.5%. It is a high silver solder bar that has eutectic melting point 217℃ (liquidus and solidus temperature are same). The SAC305 solder bar complies with ROHS regulation and is suitable for applications where ROHS compliance is required.


Why SAC305 solder bar needs such a high content of silver?

Silver bearing alloys have been used in electronics soldering for years. Silver has been used in tin-lead solders (Sn62Pb36Ag2) to combat silver scavenging from silver plated electronic components. Silver bearing alloys have good electrical and thermal conductivity as well as the ability to wet to the common surface finishes used in the printed wiring assemblies, thus giving them all the attributes needed for an electronic solder alloy. Silver provides mechanical strength and it improves resistance to fatigue from thermal cycles. That is the reason why SAC305 solder bar contains 3.0% of silver.
